In accordance with the directive of the Cebu Port Authority (CPA), OPASCOR will be putting up a Bulk Handling System at the Cebu International Port (CIP). OPASCOR President and General Manager, Atty. Tomas A. Riveral will meet with some Technical Specialists from Singapore, who are scheduled to visit the CIP early next month, to assess and discuss the suitable facility and equipments for the project.
This bulk handling system at the CIP will provide our shippers safe and fast unloading of cargoes. Transshipments to nearby ports and other regions can be easily facilitated considering that many cargo vessel are based in Cebu. OPASCOR’s first success in cargo handling business was in 1996 when it acquired ship-to-shore gantry quay cranes and several other yard cranes for its containerized cargo operation. These cranes become the landmark of the port of Cebu.
Since then, the Cebu International Port has been the regular port of call to several foreign container vessels with weekly direct calls, affording Cebu based exporters and importers a lot of savings by cutting off the more costly local transshipment fees. Today, OPASCOR will prove once again that with the right infrastructure in place, shipping bulk cargoes may not be as costly as before.
